Overall i believe that HP had the key role in making computers smaller and better. This is because of the rivalry they had with all of the other major PC companies that were trying to outdo each other. In the fight to win sales they were making the new forefront of computers that were to be the design all others would lead off of. These great feats are still being accomplished today and hopefully will lead to greater fields.
In 1991 the very first and spectacular example of computers becoming smaller and the hardware and capacity becoming much better is the HP 95LX palmtop PC. A computer that was the size of a small calculator but had the same computing power as a desktop PC of the time. Think about how much has changed in the 10 years since HP introduced their first desktop PC  That means that in a period of 9 years they changed from having computers that took up whole rooms to ones that fit inside your pocket and had easily as much computing power as the earlier desktop PC's this is just amazing to ponder upon.
In 1982 HP came out with its first desktop computer and the good thing was that it only took up one whole room of space! Wow how great. And yet the year after HP introduced a smaller version of this desktop that was touchscreen the first in their manufacturing line.
The first 'personal' computer made by HP is a very well priced 4,900 (wow what a great deal) dollars and is 10x faster at solving engineering and mathematics than any other computer at the time.

I will be summing up the process for computers shrinking but becoming more helpful.
